Italian food is a cuisine of completeness. What you will be eating at lunch time is still one of the main talking points in Italy. Food and its quality is very important to Italian people.

There are very few foreign food restaurants in Italy because the Italians do not think this is necessary. They consider their cuisine, to be the only food to eat, with a wholesomeness in all things, quality and taste.

Why would you need to eat anything else!

The Italian way of cooking food has developed over hundreds of years.
It is an old cuisine. Pasta is the main staple food made of wheat.

The sauces in general contain little meat which is mainly used to give flavour, rather than be the main ingredient.
The type of pasta and sauce varies with each region of Italy. Each has its own traditional food, like they each have their own dialect.

Italians in general refuse to be seduced by the fast food movement.
Shops and businesses still shut from 1.30 p.m.-4.00 p.m. to enable workers to enjoy sitting down to a proper meal in the middle of the day.
Many Italians still eat their main meal at lunch time, with a small supper in the evening.
